Biography  



David James Archuleta was born December 28, 1990 in Miami, Florida. David lived in different cities in Florida until he was six years old. His family then moved to Murray, Utah in February of 1997, and he still lives there today.

Music is in his genes, as his mother is a singer and his father is a jazz trumpet player. He started singing at the age of 7. He entered a Utah Talent Competition at 10 years old, performing "I Will Always Love You". He received a standing ovation after his performance. He also performed on the Jenny Jones show. At the age of 12 he won the junior competition of Star Search. However Archuleta is best know for being the runner- up to David Cook on the 7th Season of American Idol.

A couple years ago, David was affected by a vocal paralysis where he could hardly even speak. He went to an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor and they had said that surgery was an option but it was risky. David opted to not have the surgery and recovered without.

David went on a 56-city tour with the rest of the Top 10 from American Idol for the American Idol LIVE! Tour 2008. He signed a deal with Jive Records and his self-titled album will be releasing on November 11, 2008. His first single "Crush" was released August 1, 2008 on Z100, a radio station out of New York. On August 12, 2008 when it became avaliable on iTunes it had reached #1 within 19 hours. On October 1, 2008, "Crush" officially went gold having sold 566,629 copies.
